  greetings, this is my first post here on jwn .

  i came across mr. king's youtube channel, ewatchamacallitman.com, and i was speechless and ill at the same time.. .

  i went to his website and tried to do some reading, but my head started hurting and my vision blurred.

  i'm not but i know some jws that have drifted but when things like 9/11 catastrophes occur, they're right back at the kingdom hall.. do you ever worry that the great tribulation might occur and you will die?.

I'd like to think that God is better than that. That he wouldn't play with his people's emotions decade after decade, teasing them with new predictions of the end, forcing them to live bizarre lives never thinking they're going to die or make house repairs or get married or have children or get educated or really care about anything in this material world. That he wouldn't repress individuality to such a complete degree. That he wouldn't inflict constant guilt and a feeling of never being able to do enough. That he wouldn't warp your mind so that you're looking forward to the slaughter of 7 billion people.

  It really seems rather fiendish of God if he were to use his one channel to mindf_ck people in such a complete way. Even after my fade I feel like I'll never be totally normal, that I'll alway fear Armageddon, that I'll always have Kingdom songs running through my head.

  others had commented on the latest shift of the interpretation of this generation.

  as you recognize this allows for an unending extension of time and likely stems from an awareness of the approach of the year 2014 marking 100 years since the date of 1914.. .

  Ray probably didn't elaborate much about this change because really what can be said about it? For someone to be able to try to explain this to someone else with a straight face would be quite a feat. This to me is equivalent to asking the membership to drink the Kool-aid. This crosses every line. There really wasn't even an attempt to explain it with any degree of rationality. Just throw the word "evidently" in there and hope the masses believe just because it's in the Watchtower.

  i am beginning to question the existence of a christian god, or any god for that matter, but i also can't quite commit to believing in evolution.

  so where does that leave me?

  minimus - I agree that John Casino was a good guy. I think that he turned some of his talks into comedy shows just to keep things interesting and fun for him. I think his first talk he gave was on slang. I don't think there was really any point to the talk but it certainly was funny. I also remember his pointer that he loved to use. He twice counseled me on not having a "pioneer haircut" - LOL. His wife OTOH was just about universally disliked.

  Dentler did nothing for me. I remember though how infuriated I was when he insulted the intelligence of all in the audience by insisting that NOTHING had changed with the new 1995 generation doctrine. Gimme a break! That was the beginning of the end for me.

  Another name comes to mind - Don Amy and his wife Natasha. They were friends of my parents. Does anybody recognize their names?

  metatron - you perfectly summed up Rodericks. He was a born actor. I remember one sister even asked him if he took acting lessons. For all of his ability to be entertaining, he had a deep mean streak. On his last visit to my congregation he chastised the whole congregation at the conclusion of his last talk for not being welcoming enough when he first got there. I couldn't believe my ears.

  I did my successful fade starting in late 2004. These CO's were all in the northeastern part of the United States. Interesting that Rodricks might still be in this area. He was famous for his polishing-the-brass-on-the-titantic illustration regarding higher education. I was in high school at the time. I never went to college and, of course, now regret listening to the bull shit.

Three that had the most impact on me were Rodricks (that's how it's pronounced, not sure of the spelling), Casino and Shepherd. The first drove people out by his virulent opposition to higher education but actually convinced me to get baptized. Casino was just a crackpot but could be pretty funny. He taught my pioneer school along with another CO named Dentler. The last one, Shepherd, drove me to leave the religion. He was the most unchristian man I have ever encountered in the religion.

  I'm just curious, has anyone else here had dealings with any of these circuit overseers and, if so, what were your impressions of them?
